The most precious gift
I love that originality lies in simplicity, that richness rhymes with sobriety, in a ballet of timeless elegance.
Giving a beautiful everyday object as a gift is no longer so commonplace. Yet these are eco-friendly gifts that we remember, because they accompany us day after day. They invite us to pay attention to our small, mechanical gestures, to bring awareness where there is none, to refocus on the very essence of our existence.
Beautiful handcrafted objects have this great power: to touch our souls and nourish them deeply.
Because deep down, we know that leading a more sober, more beautiful, more authentic life is our true nature.

The pleasure of giving a refined, eco-friendly gift
Giving is an act of generosity that comes from deep within us. It is how we share our love for others, our values, and our best wishes.
Commercial holidays and social norms have somewhat distorted the power of this gesture. We give gifts often, sometimes, too often? What would the planet say if it could talk to us?
Birth gifts, birthday gifts, wedding gifts, christening gifts, get well gifts, retirement gifts... we celebrate the big moments in life, but also the smaller ones. That is why it is essential to minimise the impact that all these gifts have on our world. Above all, let's choose gifts that are useful and sustainable.
For you, for us, I take care to trace the supply chain: does this fabric have a label guaranteeing compliance with ethical and ecological standards? Is it recycled? Does it have to travel a long way to reach my workshop?
Respectful of our shared resources, Æmilia Barcelona® textile creations have been designed to nourish you with beauty, while meeting your natural everyday needs (blowing your nose, drawing, protecting a book, comforting a baby, relieving pain, etc.).
When offering refined eco-friendly gifts with such care and love, you can't go wrong.

Committed handmade gifts
The choice of raw materials is not the only lever for making an ecological and societal impact.
When we own beautiful objects for their elegance and finesse, we cherish them, look after them and repair them so that they can be with us for as long as possible.
I believe that this is an extremely positive attitude towards safeguarding our common resources.
Whether you are committed to the ecological cause or simply a lover of beauty, Æmilia's handcrafted pieces will naturally guide you towards a virtuous art of living.

Unique eco-friendly gifts, because we all are
What if we celebrated our uniqueness by giving unique gifts? Not a mass-produced customised item, but an original piece.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting yet another way to stand out or, worse, to encourage people to consume more and more because this design is even prettier than the last one. Rather, I'm talking about celebrating our differences, because that is where our greatest strength lies.
Giving a unique gift means recognising and accepting the other person in their uniqueness: we don't have the same history, the same abilities, we don't move at the same speed, nor do we even have the same destination. Therefore, we must draw on our reserves of empathy and tolerance. I think the world needs that today. More than ever.
Giving a unique gift then becomes a fabulous way to connect with others, surrounding them with kindness and respect.
If you can't find what you're looking for in the online shop, take a detour to the bespoke world of Æmilia Barcelona® and let's co-create the most unique of all gifts together.

Cork
Here in Spanish Catalonia, cork production is an age-old tradition. Exploitation of the cork oak, Quercus Suber, dates back to the 18th century.
Although cork production has fallen sharply nowadays, it is still produced in the heart of the Albera and Gavarres forest massifs, where the harvest can be seen from June to August.
These hundred-year-old trees fascinate me because of their power of regeneration. Cork, when transformed into a textile, is truly surprising: versatile, light, waterproof, hard-wearing and easy to care for, it quickly found its place in my workshop.

Linen
What can I say about the fields of flax in my native Normandy? These delicate purple flowers, which in June give the countryside a fleeting hue, have such an interesting environmental footprint.
Moisturised exclusively by rainfall, flax plants require no irrigation. What's more, there's no wastage or unfortunate waste when it's harvested right down to the roots.
As for the qualities of its fibre, they are exceptional: resistant, thermoregulating, antibacterial and hypoallergenic. No wonder it has been used by mankind for thousands of years.

Vegetable tanned leathers
The idea of working with animal skins has never appealed to me, but when cork isn't suitable for the object I'm creating, I opt for coated cotton, which has the advantage of being recyclable and biodegradable, or synthetic leather. Its ecological footprint is not ideal, I readily admit, but it is machine washable. And for a mum like me, that's an argument that still carries weight.
Today, my hopes are pinned on Piñatex: a vegetable leather made from pineapple, developed by the Spaniard Carmen Hijosa. It's still expensive, it's delicate to care for, but its aesthetic qualities are breathtaking. Cultivated in the Philippines and then processed in Spain, Piñatex is an almost local material, since the Ananas Anam company is less than an hour from my workshop!

Cotton
And of course cotton, which is essential in my workshop. As you know, cotton is not neutral in terms of soil pollution. That's why I make sure I choose GOTS-certified organic cotton or cotton guaranteed free from harmful substances by the Oeko-Tex 100 label.
I may, however, make exceptions to this rule to ensure the recycling of forgotten fabrics, for example, or when my local suppliers are not available.
In all cases, the composition of Æmilia products is always carefully displayed in the Composition tab of the product sheets.
